Wiradjuri Country

Public Architecture

Competiton 2018

The project brief sought the replacement of an old stair and lookout, with a design that would comply with today's accessibility requirements.

In an attempt to rehabilitate the natural beauty of the site (and acknowledge both Indigenous and early settler occupation) our design proposed a structure which would have sat adjacent to - rather than on - the granite boulders.

This proposal was developed in collaboration with Focus Engineering (Corowa) and Indigenous Artist Lorraine Connelly-Northey (Weradgerie) and although unsuccessful,  has served as a much-used template with which our studio approaches similar projects.

We acknowledge the Bangerang, Wiradjuri, Jaitmatang and Waveroo people on whose country we work and create.

We also acknowledge the traditional custodians throughout Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands where our projects are placed. We recognise their ongoing connection to country, land and waters that were never ceded and pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging.
